Our club finished its Summer Rapidplay competitions with two home matches on the same night.
We all fitted into the dining room.
All the Heathcote Arms players began their first games with white. Graham S defeated Alan Byron and Graham B beat Ed Galyov to finish the first half of the Wylie fixture even with their opponents.
Meanwhile, in the Harrod we had two new players on boards 3 and 4 both against experienced Willowbrook players. Chris was not messing around and managed a convincing win, whilst Drew went down on material quite quickly, but hung on until the bitter end with a lone king. Pete and John both lost their first games.
After the break, the home team went down 4-0 in the second games of the Wylie.
In the Harrod, Pete and John both won. Chris left a bishop en prise and was being forked all over the place, but managed a partial recovery, but then swapped off queens when material down. Drew played a far better second game - still equal on material until the ending. He was outplayed here, but again played down to a lone king, offering his opponent a draw on the way.
On paper the results for the night were quite bad, but there were good individual performances. Chris and Drew both show considerable promise.
This Tuesday (18/9/12), there are no matches and the dining room and skittle alley are both booked out, but we should be able to play some friendlies in the bar.
Well done everyone,
